7 Cheapest Foods to Feed Your Kids this Summer
Do you have kids out for the summer that eat a lot, at the same time you’re on a budget? Buying groceries to feed these little pigs can get expensive if you don’t shop with a plan. Consider some of these cheap foods that you can buy, that even your pickiest eater will enjoy.
For under $2 for a loaf of bread and $2 for a package of cheese, you can make enough grilled cheese to feed a small army. And it’s so simple to make even older kids can make it.
If you go at the right time, a can of Manwich will you around $1, a pack of buns around $1.50, and a pound of hamburger will be about $4. So for under $7 you can feed at least 8 kids.
Mac n’ cheese with hotdogs
You can buy Kraft blue box mac n cheese for around $1. If you want an upgrade to Velveeta shells n cheese, this will run around $3. Adding sliced hotdogs into the equation will add around $2-$3 depending where you go, and your preferences.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich
Kids love their peanut butter and jelly. While a loaf of bread will run around $2, a jar of jelly will be about $2-$3, and peanut butter around $2-$2.50. You will have enough left over to have for a meal more than once, unless you have 19 kids and counting.
Fried egg sandwich
This is a great meal no matter what time of day. For $2 a loaf of bread, and $1-$1.50 for a dozen eggs, fried egg sandwiches are among the cheapest meals that you can feed your kids that provides protein.
I’m not sure what’s in pizza that makes kids want it for every meal, so you can’t go wrong stocking up on frozen pizzas for the summer. You can get store brand pizzas for around $2.50. That’s cheap to feed all your kids. Jacks pizzas will run you around $2-$3 depending on the sale they have running on them.
Bologna will cost you around $1.79-$2, while miracle whip will run around $3-$3.50. WIth that $2 multi-purpose bread you’ve used for other meals, this food option will feed many kids for a number of meals.
