- large apples – I used Pink Lady apples, however, you can use any type of apples that hold up well to baking. Granny Smith is also a good apple.
- blackberries
- granulated sugar
- all-purpose flour
- ground cinnamon
- ground nutmeg
- lemon juice
- old-fashioned oats – Instant oats can be used in a pinch, but rolled oats work best.
- brown sugar – I used light brown sugar, but dark will also work.
- salt
- unsalted butter – Salted butter can be used as well.

In a large mixing bowl combine the apple and blackberry filling. Toss until the fruit is evenly coated. Pour into the prepared pan.
In another bowl add the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the crumble topping. Use a pastry cutter to add in the butter.
Sprinkle the crumble mixture over top of the fruit.
Bake in a 375-degree preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool slightly before serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Hint: You can use a 9×9 baking dish if you don’t have a round baking dish. Grease your baking dish well with nonstick cooking spray.
Storage
Storage – Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
Freezing – You can also freeze the leftovers in a freezer-safe container wrapped with plastic wrap and aluminum foil for up to 3 months.
Reheating – You can reheat the entire crumble in the oven at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Or single servings in the microwave for 1-2 minutes.

- Make sure that you grease your casserole dish well so that your crumble doesn’t stick.
- It’s important to use cold butter when making a crumble topping. So, don’t melt the butter first.

- 2 cups blackberries
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Crumble Topping:
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease 2.5 quarts round dish and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, blackberries, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Toss until the fruit is evenly coated.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix together the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the crumble topping.
- Add the cold cubed butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit mixture in the baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the filling is bubbly, and the topping is golden brown.
