  • Colored Candy melts – I used purple, green and orange candy melts. You can use just one color if you prefer.
  • Paramount Crystals – you can also use vegetable shortening or coconut oil
  • Candy eyes – you can purchase these at Walmart, online, or at your local craft store.

๐Ÿ”ช How to Make Monster Oreo Balls

cookie crumbs and cream cheese in a glass bowl
  1. Start by slicing about 15 Oreos in half and remove the frosting. Itโ€™s very easy to crumble the cookies, so cut them by dragging the knife across the cookies until they slice in half.
  2. Use a food processor or blender to crush the remaining Oreos into fine crumbs.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed cookies, vanilla, and cream cheese until thoroughly mixed.
  4. Roll into1.5 tablespoon balls and chill for about 30 minutes in the fridge.
balls being rolled in melted candy melts
  1. Melt the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl for 30 second increments, stirring in between until the chocolate is melted.
  2. Add paramount crystals to the chocolate to thin out the chocolate โ€“ your chocolate will go farther if it is thinner.
  3. Using a spoon, roll the balls individually into the chocolate and place them on a baking tray. Add sprinkles if desired.
  4. Allow the balls to chill in the fridge for about 15 minutes.
  5. After the chocolate is set, add the eyes to the monsters and allow them to set. Use melted candy melts to adhere to the eyeballs.

Hint: If your oreo balls are breaking apart when you are rolling them place the balls into the freezer for 15 to 30 minutes to harden them back up.

๐Ÿ“Variations

Do you want to change up this Oreo ball recipe and make it your own? Here are some ways that you can do that!

  • Oreos – Change up the flavor of Oreos you use. I used a classic Oreo but you could use Golden Oreos, mint, peanut butter, etc.
  • Decorations – You can decorate your Oreo monster balls any way you want. Feel free to change up the sprinkles used, or add different types of candy on top.
  • Colors of Chocolate – You can use any color of candy melts to create different style monsters.

๐Ÿฅ„ Equipment

  • food processor or blender – This makes crushing your cookie crumbs easy! However, if you don’t have one you can use a ziploc bag and a rolling pin instead.
  • Baking Sheet – I like to use a lined baking sheet that is lined with parchment paper or a baking mat.
  • Parchment paper or silicone baking mat – This is optional but it makes cleaning up a breeze.

๐Ÿฅซ Storage

You are welcome to store your monster balls in the fridge in an airtight container. These will store for up to a week.

Or you can freeze any Oreo balls in a freezer friendly bag or airtight container. Then freeze for 2-3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight or on the counter for 30 minutes to an hour.

๐Ÿ’ญ Tips

  • One thing I like to recommend is using a cookie scoop to grab the cookie mixture. It will give you evenly shaped Oreo balls.
  • Also, make sure to shake off the excess chocolate and then place it on a wax paper-lined tray.
  • Then decorate while the chocolate is still wet, it will harden quickly so I like to dip each ball one at a time and then decorate.

Crushed Oreos, cream cheese, and dipped in colored chocolate is all it takes. Then decorate with sprinkles, and candy eyes to give it the monster Halloween look.

Do you have to put Oreo balls in the fridge?

Yes, due to the cream cheese in the ball you need to refrigerate any leftovers. Otherwise, the cream cheese will spoil if left out at room temperature.
