Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake Balls
Equipment
- Baking Sheet
- wav paper or parchment paper
- Large bowl
- Cookie Scoop
Ingredients
- 17.04 ounces Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes crumbled
- 8 ounces cream cheese room temperature
- 16 ounces white candy melts
- ¼ cup red candy melts melted (optional)
- Red and green colored sanding sugar
Instructions
- Prepare a baking sheet with waxed paper.
- In a large bowl, beat together the cakes and cream cheese until well mixed.
- Using a small cookie scoop, portion the cookie dough into 1-inch balls and roll into a smooth ball.
- For best results, freeze the truffle balls prior to decorating for at least 15 minutes.
- Place the white candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the candy on high for 1 minute. Stir vigorously to allow the candy to continue melting with the residual heat. Return the candy to the microwave and heat in 15-second intervals, stirring well between each, until the candy mixture is smooth. If the candy melts are too thick, add up to 1 tablespoon of vegetable shortening or coconut oil and stir well.
- Dip each ball into the white candy melts and tap to remove the excess melted candy. Place the cookie ball on the prepared cookie sheet and immediately decorate with sprinkles.
- If desired, transfer the melted red candy into a piping bag with the corner snipped. Drizzle over the cookie balls.
- Place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator for about 1 hour or until firm. Keep stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container between layers of waxed paper.
Notes
- Make sure to allow the cake balls to be set up and then place them in the fridge.
- Then also if you want you can add some shortening to the chocolate to help thin it a bit.
- I have the best luck finding the Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes at Walmart or Dollar General. But, sometimes they are also in my grocery stores.
- I used five of the Big Christmas Tree Cakes. However, you could use two boxes of the smaller cakes as well.
- I used a fork to dip these balls and then used a spoon to pour the chocolate on top of the ball. A toothpick works great to gently slide the ball off the work.
- You can also stick a cake pop stick to dip the balls if you prefer.
Kim says
If you are using frosting instead of cream cheese, how much frosting do you use?
Wendy says
I would use one cup of frosting. And, see what the texture is like. You might need up to a cup and half.
Sandra Galey says
What do you use to dip the balls?
Wendy says
Hey Sandra!
I used a fork to dip these, it’s easy to let the excess chocolate drip off. But, you could also use a round cake pop stick to dip them also. Use a toothpick to lightly push the ball off the fork and onto your parchment paper.
Katie says
Hello! It says 17 ounces of the little debbies, so you onow how many boxes that would be?
Wendy says
It is two of the regular sized boxes. Or one of the larger sized boxes.
