Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls are a unique twist on the classic cinnamon roll.  They are soft, gooey in the center and filled with strawberry flavor.

These cinnamon rolls are from scratch but don’t be intimidated by that.  They really are a little labor intensive but they aren’t complicated or hard to make.  I promise you take a bite of the chewy deliciousness that are these cinnamon rolls and you realize how worth the effort they are. 

Frequently Asked Questions About Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls 

Can I use frozen strawberries instead of fresh strawberries

Yes! You could use frozen strawberries instead of fresh strawberries. I would suggest thawing them first and making sure that if you are using whole frozen strawberries that you slice them first.  

How Do You Store These Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls Later?

I recommend storing strawberry cinnamon rolls in the fridge tightly covered for up to five days.  If you want to reheat your cinnamon rolls for a fresher baked taste, you can microwave them for about 20 to 30 seconds until they are warm. 

Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls 

DOUGH:

¾ cup milk

⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened

3 ¼ cups all purpose flour

1 packet instant yeast

¼ cup sugar

½ teaspoon salt

1 egg

¼ cup water

FILLING:

1 (18 ounce) jar strawberry jam

½ teaspoon cinnamon

2 cups strawberries, coarsely chopped

2 tablespoons flour

ICING:

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

¼ teaspoon vanilla

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk

How To Make Homemade Cinnamon Roll Dough

Step 1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 ½ cups flour and yeast. Set aside.

Step 2. In a saucepan, heat the milk, ⅓ cup butter, sugar, and salt until 120 degrees F. Remove from heat and stir until the butter is melted. Add to the flour and yeast.

Step 3. Mix on low, using a regular paddle, adding the egg.

Step 4. Change the mixer attachment to the dough hook. Beat the dough at low, adding the remaining flour a little at a time. Increase speed to medium until a soft dough forms, approximately 3 minutes.

Step 5. Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl, turning once to coat both sides. Cover with a clean dish towel.

Step 6. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 ½ hours.

Step 7. Punch the dough down and turn out onto a floured surface. Cover and allow to rest for 5 to 10 minutes.

How To Make Strawberry Cinnamon Rolls 

Step 8. Combine the filling ingredients.

Step 9. Roll the dough into a rectangle, approximately 20 inches by 10 inches. Gently spread with HALF of the filling mixture, leaving a 1-inch space on one long edge without filling.

Step 10. Starting on the long side, roll the dough up, working it tightly but without pulling the dough too much. Seal the long edge by pinching it shut.

Step 11. Cut the dough into 12 even slices by cutting the dough in half, cutting those halves in half and then the quarters into three slices each.

Step 12. Prepare a 9×13 casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 13. Place remaining filling in the bottom of the casserole dish. Then, put each roll in the dish allowing about one inch between them. Cover and allow to rise in a warm place about 40 minutes or until doubled.

TIP: Before allowing the final rise, rolls may be tightly covered and placed in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Remove from the refrigerator and allow to rise before baking.

Step 14. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.

Step 15. While the rolls bake, combine the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla, stirring until well blended.Then, add the milk a little at a time until reaching the desired consistency.

Step 16. Remove rolls from the oven and spread with icing.

We love cinnamon rolls for breakfast in our house.  And, one of our favorite things to serve with our cinnamon rolls is some type of protein.  Usually in our household we serve bacon, ham or sausage along with scrambled cheesy eggs.  “But, you could also serve them just by themselves!
