How Long To Cook Hamburger Steaks In The Oven

Hamburger steaks bake in about 25 to 30 minutes at 375°F when they’re covered with gravy and foil. The exact cooking time can vary depending on how thick you shape the patties. For food safety, use a meat thermometer to make sure the center reaches 160°F before serving. If you’d like a little extra color on top, remove the foil during the last 5 minutes of baking.

Storage

Storage – Store leftover hamburger steaks in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Reheating – I’ve found the best way to reheat the steaks are in the oven at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes, or the single servings in a skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side. You can also reheat in the microwave.

Tips For Baked Hamburger Steaks

  • Don’t overmix the ground beef mixture, you want to handle it as little as possible so that the patties will stick together.
  • I like to spray my casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray so that it cleans up easily.
  • I’ve found that reheating in the oven or skillet is the best way, however, the microwave will also work.

Premade patties will not have the eggs and breadcrumbs added to them, however, if a pinch you can use them and season the outside of them,

What temperature do you cook hamburger steak in the oven?

For this recipe, 375°F is the perfect oven temperature. It allows the hamburger steaks to cook through while staying tender and juicy as they simmer in the rich mushroom and onion gravy. Baking at a moderate temperature also gives the flavors time to develop without drying out the meat.

Do you bake hamburger steaks covered or uncovered?

It’s best to bake hamburger steaks covered with aluminum foil for most of the cooking time. The foil helps trap moisture and keeps the patties tender while the gravy stays rich and flavorful. If you’d like the tops to brown slightly, simply remove the foil during the last 5 minutes of baking before serving.
