🔪 How to Make Bat Halloween Oreo Balls
- Start by slicing about 15 Oreos in half and remove the frosting. It’s very easy to crumble the cookies, so cut them by dragging the knife across the cookies until they slice in half.
- Use a food processor or blender to crush the remaining Oreos into fine crumbs.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed cookies, vanilla, and cream cheese until thoroughly mixed.
- Roll into1.5 tablespoon balls and chill for about 30 minutes in the fridge.
- Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl for 30-second increments, stirring in between until the chocolate is melted.
- Add paramount crystals to the chocolate to thin out the chocolate – your chocolate will go farther if it is thinner.
- Using a spoon, roll the balls individually into the chocolate and place them on a baking tray.
- Allow them to sit for a few minutes, and then carefully press in the oreo halves – one on each side. You may need to hold them for a few seconds to make sure they don’t fall off.
- Add the mini chocolate chips to the top of the ball for the ears.
- Allow the balls to chill in the fridge for about 15 minutes.
- Then, add a small drop of chocolate to the back of the eyes. And apply eyes to the front of the bat and let dry.
Hint: If the balls start to break apart while you are rolling them in the melted chocolate, pop them back into the freezer until they harden up.
📝Variations
Do you want to change up this recipe and make it your own? Here are some ways that you can do that!
- Oreos – You can use flavored Oreos for this recipe if you want. Mint, peanut butter, etc. Any work great and will give these Oreo balls that rich flavor.
- Wings – So I used half of an Oreo to make the bat wings. If you want you can pipe out chocolate on wax paper. Then attach the chocolate wings to the wet ball after you dip in chocolate. I love the Oreo cookie wings though.
- Dark Chocolate – I used milk chocolate for dipping but you can easily swap it with dark chocolate to give the bats a darker color.

🥫 Storage
Store your Halloween Oreo balls in an airtight container in the fridge. These balls can be made in advance if you want. Just allow them to fully set up and then place in the fridge until you are ready to serve. They will store for up to 5 days in the fridge.
For freezing they will freeze for 2-3 months. Just place in a freezer friendly container. Then freeze and thaw in the fridge overnight.
💭 Tips
- It’s important to work quickly or keep some of the Oreo balls in the freezer so that they don’t soften too much.
- Line your workspace with parchment paper for easy cleanup. I also recommend lining the baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent the balls from sticking.
- Decorate one Oreo ball at a time, otherwise, the chocolate will harden and you can’t stick eyes and such onto the ball.
- I recommend using a cookie scoop that way all your Oreo balls are very similar in size.
- Do not use thin Oreos. You need the original Oreos.
⁉️ FAQ
Do you have questions about this recipe? Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions.
Of course, you can make your bats any color or colors you want. I do recommend using candy melts as it hardens nicely. Or add a tablespoon of coconut oil in with the chocolate, to help the chocolate set up.
Yes, these balls need refrigerated due to the cream cheese in the Oreo balls. Otherwise, they will begin to go bad as the cream cheese needs to stay cold.
You can add the ball to a toothpick and stick into the chocolate and lift it up. Or use a fork to shake off the excess chocolate and then carefully place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
