How to Make Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake Balls

Here is a quick walk through to help you see how to make these easy cake balls made with Little Debbie’s!

Step 1: Prep Baking Sheet

Prep your baking sheet with wax paper. Then set the baking sheets to the side.

Step 2: Mix Up The Cake Balls

In a mixing bowl or stand mixer, you will mix up the cream cheese and cakes. Mix until it creates a nice cake ball texture.

Step 3: Form Balls

Use a cookie scoop and roll into balls and place on the sheet pan. Then freeze your truffle balls.

Step 4: Dip Cake Balls in Chocolate

Melt your chocolate in the microwave. Heat in the microwave and stir between heating. Then once well melted you will dip each cake ball in the chocolate and shake off the excess chocolate.

Step 5: Decorate

With each cake ball, you can decorate with red candy melt chocolate, and sprinkles or any way you would like.

Storage

Refrigerate – These balls need to be refrigerated. Place in an airtight container or sealed bag. Then store for 3-5 days. If you are going to stack place wax paper between the layers to prevent sticking.

Freezing – You can also freeze any cake balls you do not plan to eat right away. Just store in a freezer container or freezer bag. These cake balls can freeze for 3-4 months.

Ingredients

  • 17.04 ounces Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes crumbled
  • 8 ounces cream cheese room temperature
  • 16 ounces white candy melts
  • ¼ cup red candy melts melted (optional)
  • Red and green colored sanding sugar

Instructions

  • Prepare a baking sheet with waxed paper.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the cakes and cream cheese until well mixed.
  • Using a small cookie scoop, portion the cookie dough into 1-inch balls and roll into a smooth ball.
  • For best results, freeze the truffle balls prior to decorating for at least 15 minutes.
  • Place the white candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the candy on high for 1 minute. Stir vigorously to allow the candy to continue melting with the residual heat. Return the candy to the microwave and heat in 15-second intervals, stirring well between each, until the candy mixture is smooth. If the candy melts are too thick, add up to 1 tablespoon of vegetable shortening or coconut oil and stir well.
  • Dip each ball into the white candy melts and tap to remove the excess melted candy. Place the cookie ball on the prepared cookie sheet and immediately decorate with sprinkles.
  • If desired, transfer the melted red candy into a piping bag with the corner snipped. Drizzle over the cookie balls.
  • Place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator for about 1 hour or until firm. Keep stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container between layers of waxed paper.

Notes

  • Make sure to allow the cake balls to be set up and then place them in the fridge.
  • Then also if you want you can add some shortening to the chocolate to help thin it a bit.
  • I have the best luck finding the Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes at Walmart or Dollar General. But, sometimes they are also in my grocery stores.
  • I used five of the Big Christmas Tree Cakes. However, you could use two boxes of the smaller cakes as well. 
  • I used a fork to dip these balls and then used a spoon to pour the chocolate on top of the ball. A toothpick works great to gently slide the ball off the work.
  • You can also stick a cake pop stick to dip the balls if you prefer.
