Ingredients

To make this recipe you only need a few simple ingredients. All of these ingredients are easy to find at your local grocery or you may already have them on hand to save you a trip to the store. You can find all the ingredients and amounts listed in the recipe card below.

  • saltine crackers – I like to use the salted crackers, because they add just a hint of salt to balance out the sweetness. Did you know that salt brings out sweet flavors on your tastebuds?
  • unsalted butter  – I used unsalted butter because it typically has less water than salted which makes a better caramel layer.
  • brown sugar – Light brown sugar works best in this recipe, but dark brown sugar can also be used.
  • Christmas sprinkles – These are optional and you can use whatever type of Christmas sprinkles you have on hand. I prefer a softer sprinkle for this recipe.

Variations

If you’re looking to add a different flavor or texture, feel free to mix in some of your favorite add-ins. Here are some ideas:

  • Candy canes – crushed candy cane pieces make a great addition for crunch and peppermint flavor.
  • Chopped nuts – I like chopped pecans as they give an extra crunch and nutty flavor.
  • Chocolate chips – semi-sweet and dark chocolate chips would be delicious additions as well.
  • Marshmallows – mini marshmallows give the perfect gooey texture that everyone loves.

How to Make White Chocolate Christmas Crack

Making this white Christmas crack is so simple! Just follow the directions below or the full instructions in the recipe card, and you will have a sweet and salty snack in no time at all.

Step 1: Preheat the oven, prepare a baking sheet, and layer the crackers

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 15x10x1 baking sheet with parchment paper.  And, onto the prepared baking sheet, place the crackers in a single layer without overlapping.

Step 2: Make the caramel sauce

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar, stirring occasionally. Bring the sugar to a boil and continue cooking, stirring often, for 3 to 4 minutes.

Step 3: Pour the caramel on top of the crackers and bake

Remove the saucepan from the heat and pour the sugar syrup over the crackers and spread evenly. Place the baking sheet into the oven and bake for 10 minutes.

Step 4: Add the white chocolate

While hot, sprinkle the white chocolate baking chips over the toffee layer and allow to rest for about 5 minutes or until the chips can spread evenly.

Step 5: Add the sprinkles and allow to cool

Add sprinkles over the melted chocolate. Allow to cool completely before lifting the crackers from the baking sheet using the parchment paper.

Step 6: Cut, chill and store

Cut into pieces and serve or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

What is Christmas crack made of?

Christmas crack is typically made with saltine crackers, butter, brown sugar and white chocolate – although you can also add in other ingredients like candy canes or marshmallows.

Is Christmas crack supposed to be chewy?

Yes, this Christmas crack should be a little chewy. That is from the toffee layer on top of the crackers.

Why didn’t my Christmas Crack harden?

If your Christmas crack didn’t harden, it could be because the sugar and butter weren’t cooked long enough. Be sure to cook the sugar until it is a light golden color. However, you can add it to fridge or freezer to hardened it up faster if needed.
