Ingredients
You only need eleven ingredients to make these homemade Star of David Cookies. And, most of the ingredients should already be in your pantry at home.
- sugar
- unsalted butter, room temperature
- cream cheese, room temperature
- egg room temperature
- almond extract
- vanilla extract
- all purpose flour
- baking powder
- salt
- Blue frosting – Like Funfetti. Or you can use blue food coloring and vanilla frositng.
- White sprinkles

Instructions
Now that I’ve told you everything that you needed to make these delicious cookies, it’s time to bake these tasty treats. Follow the steps below and you will enjoy these Christmas cookies.
Beat the butter and cream cheese at medium speed until mixed and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add the egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract. Beat again until smooth and creamy, about 5 additional minutes.
In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, about ยฝ cup at a time, just until mixed.
Shape the dough into a rectangle and wrap with plastic wrap. Refrigerate overnight.
When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Prepare two or three large rimmed, baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll out the cookie dough to ยฝ inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters and transfer to the baking sheet.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or just until the edges are set and the cookies are puffed. Allow the cookies to cool completely on the baking sheets.
Once the cookies are cooled completely, microwave your can of frosting for 30 seconds and then stir. Continue microwaving 15 seconds at a time until your frosting is pourable.
Place cookies on a cooling rack that is on top of a baking sheet with sides and slowly pour the blue frosting over the cookies. Allow the excess frosting to drip off onto the baking rack.
While the royal icing is still wet add any sprinkles or decorations to the top and allow the cookies to harden completely before moving to your airtight container.
Substitutions
What happens if you go to make these cream cheese cookies and you donโt have everything on hand? Here are some substitution ideas.
- Colored sprinkles – sometimes you just don’t have the white sprinkles on hand to make these cookies! Different colored sprinkles work just as well.
- No cream cheese? – if you don’t have cream cheese on hand, there are several substitutions you can use. Mascarpone cheese, ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, and farmer’s cheese!

- Open a can of frosting and remove the foil label completely.
- Place in the microwave and heat for 30 seconds. Stir well. Repeat in 15 second increments if needed. Heat the frosting until it is pourable
- Allow the icing to cool slightly before frosting the cookies.
- Slowly pour the frosting over the cookies until the cookies is completely covered.
- While the frosting is still wet, apply desired sprinkles, candies, and decorations.
- Allow icing to completely dry before storing in an airtight container.
