Serving Suggestions
- With a Glass of Milk: The classic cookie companion, a cold glass of milk complements the sweet and creamy flavors of the Hershey’s Hugs Cookies.
- Coffee or Tea Pairing: These cookies pair beautifully with a hot cup of coffee or tea, making them a perfect afternoon snack.
- A la Mode: Warm the cookies slightly and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream
Pro Tips
- Roll Dough into Rounds: Shape the dough into rounded tablespoons and roll them in sugar for a sweet, crispy exterior.
- Don’t Overbake: Bake the cookies only until they’re just set. They should still be soft when you take them out of the oven.
- Add the Hershey’s Hug Immediately: After baking, let the cookies cool for no longer than 1 minute before pressing a Hershey’s Hug into the center of each one. This helps the chocolate melt slightly and adhere to the cookie.
- Separate Layers With Parchment Paper: If you’re stacking the cookies, place small sheets of parchment paper between the layers. Because this helps prevent the cookies from sticking together.
Storage
- Airtight Containers: Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. This helps keep the cookies fresh and prevents them from drying out or becoming stale.
- Freezing: If you want to store them for a longer period, these cookies freeze well. Place them in an airtight container or double wrap them in both plastic wrap and aluminum foil for the best results.
- Defrosting: If frozen, bring the cookie dough to room temperature before baking as directed. This may include defrosting for 2 days in the refrigerator.

Hershey’s Hugs Cookies
Equipment
- mixing bowls
- Baking Sheet
- Cookie Scoop
- Electric Mixer
Ingredients
- 2 cups PLUS 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour divided
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter room temperature
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 36 Hershey’s Hugs unwrapped
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare two large rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Beat the butter and the sugar on medium speed, scraping down the sides as needed, beating for 5 to 7 minutes or until fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla, beating until evenly combined. Add the flour mixture and beat until mixed.
- Divide the dough into two equal portions, removing one half from the bowl. Into the half of the dough in the mixing bowl, add the remaining flour, beating until well combined. Remove the dough and set aside.
- Place the second half of the dough into the mixing bowl and add the cocoa powder, beating until well combined.
- Divide each dough into smaller balls and place alternating the colors in the bowl.
- Using a small (1 tablespoon) cookie scoop, portion the cookie dough, scooping from both shades of dough, and shape into balls. Place on the baking sheet about 1 inch apart.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the cookies are puffed and the edges are set.
- Remove the cookie sheets from the oven and immediately press one candy into the center of each cookie.
- Transfer to a wire rack and allow the cookies to cool completely. The candies will look like they are melting but do not disturb them and they will resolidify in the correct shape.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week or refrigerate for up to 3 weeks. Cooled cookies can also be frozen but sudden temperature changes may cause the candy to “bloom” which is harmless but not pretty.
