- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 2 cups marinara sauce store-bought or homemade
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil or parsley chopped (for garnish)
- Cooked pasta or sub rolls for serving
Start by seasoning the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.
Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic on top of the chicken.
Pour the marinara sauce over the chicken. Sprinkle the dried oregano, dried basil, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) over the sauce.
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through. Shred the chicken up with 2 forks in the sauce.
Once done, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the chicken. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley. Serve over cooked pasta or on sub rolls.
