Equipment

  • dutch oven with a lid
  • Medium bowl

Ingredients

  • 8 large Granny Smith apples cored and cut into wedges
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the topping:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 eggs room temperature and lightly beaten
  • cup butter melted

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a dutch oven with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In the dutch oven, stir together the apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Smooth into an even layer.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon with a whisk. Add the eggs to the flour mixture and stir, pressing the flour into the egg, until combined into a crumbly batter.
  • Drop the crumble over the top of the apples. Pour the melted butter evenly over the top of the crumble.
  • Cover the dutch oven with the lid. Place in the oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping has browned.

Notes

Don’t Overmix the Topping – Overmixing the topping can cause it to become too dense and heavy, resulting in a tough and chewy texture. Be sure to use a light hand when mixing the topping to maintain its crumbly texture.
