When I first started my diet and working on improving my health I knew that I needed to break up with my love of carbs.  Don’t get me wrong I still eat them when the mood strikes but I try my best to keep wasted calories out of my diet so I reduced the amount of carbs that I ate.

I’ve always had a love of steak.  My husband however is not a fan of “tough” meat.  He is very texture sensitive when it comes to meat so I’ve found that making these steak tips keep the meat tender because they are quick to cook.

Frequently Asked Questions About Steak Tops with Mustard Sauce

Can I use a different type of beef?

I really prefer ribeye and that is what I usually like to use.  However, sirloin or even chuck roast steak would work great for this steak tips recipe.  You could even use strip steak.  I personally find that strip steak or sirloin tends to be a tougher cut of steak than ribeye.  So, if you are sensitive to tough steak ribeye is what you want to use.

Can I use something other than heavy whipping cream?

Yes!  You can use fat free half and half if you are watching your calories.  Fat free half and half will still equal and creamy and flavorful sauce without as many calories.

How long can I store leftover steak tips?

You can safely store leftover steak tips in your fridge for up to 4 days.  The steak from the steak tips freezes fine, however the cream sauce will not freeze well.  It will separate and become chunky.  I do not recommend freezing the sauce.

What is the best way to reheat leftover steak?

I personally do not like steak reheated in the microwave. I do like to reheat my steak tips in a skillet over medium high.  Spray your skillet with cooking spray and allow your skillet to warm and preheat before you place your steak tips into the skillet to reheat.  Saute the steak for about 3 to 4 minutes until your steak is completely warmed through the center.

Can I use noodles instead of zoodles?

Certainly!  I used zoodles because I am trying to reduce the amount of calories that I eat.  Any type of noodle goes great with this recipe. When I make these steak tips in mustard sauce for my family I always use pasta instead of zoodles since they don’t like to eat zoodles like I do.  I use spaghetti or fettuccine for them.
