Ingredients

Variations / Options / Add-Ins

Here are a few ways that you can personalize this simple recipe.

Sauce – Instead of making a homemade alfredo sauce for this recipe, you can use store-bought if you want to save a little time.

Protein: You can use italian sausage, or even ground turkey as the protein, or leave it out all together.

Meat Sauce – For a short cut I used a jar of pasta sauce instead of making my own. However, you can make your own if you prefer.

How to Make Alfredo Spaghetti

Step 1: Make the meat sauce

In a large skillet over medium high heat, brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic, crumbling the beef as it cooks. Drain the meat well and return it to the skillet. To the skillet, add the marinara sauce. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes while preparing the alfredo sauce.

Step 2: Make the alfredo sauce

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Stir often and allow the sauce to thicken slightly before stirring in the grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. Continue to simmer, stirring often, as the cheese melts and the sauce thickens. When the sauce begins to coat the sides of the pot, remove it from heat.

Step 3: Cook the pasta

Meanwhile, in a large stockpot, cook the spaghetti according to the package directions. Drain well.

Step 4: Mix the alfredo and spaghetti together

Stir the alfredo sauce into the drained spaghetti and toss to coat. Transfer the spaghetti and alfredo sauce to the prepared casserole dish, creating an even layer.

Step 5: Top the spaghetti with sauce and cheese

Over the spaghetti, add the meat sauce in an even layer. Top the meat sauce with the shredded Mozzarella cheese.

Step 6: Bake the casserole

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the edges bubble. Serve while warm.
