Equipment

  • rimmed baking sheet
  • medium saucepan
  • Rubber Spatula
  • Parchment Paper

Ingredients

  • 48 saltine crackers about 1 ½ sleeves
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup white chocolate baking chips
  • Easter sprinkles
  • Pastel M&M candies

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 15x10x1 baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Onto the prepared baking sheet, place the crackers in a single layer without overlapping.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar, stirring occasionally. Bring the sugar to a boil and continue cooking, stirring often, for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and pour the sugar syrup over the crackers and spread evenly.
  • Place the baking sheet into the oven and bake for 10 minutes or until the toffee is bubbling all over the crackers..
  • While hot, sprinkle the white chocolate baking chips over the toffee layer and allow to rest for about 5 minutes or until the chips can spread evenly. (As an alternative, the white chocolate can be melted in the microwave and then spread over the toffee layer.)
  • Add sprinkles and candies over the melted chocolate.
  • Allow to cool completely before lifting the crackers from the baking sheet using the parchment paper. Cut into pieces and serve or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Use higher-quality chocolate for an even better taste.
  • Substitute half of the butter with shortening for a firmer texture.
  • Don't overmix the ingredients, stir until everything is incorporated.
  • For an extra flavorful treat, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • Line your pan with foil before baking to make clean-up easier.
  • Let the Easter crack cool entirely before adding toppings.
