Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • parchment paper or wax paper
  • food processor
  • knife
  • small cookie scoop or ice cream scoop
  • Large bowl

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Cookies
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 16 ounces green candy melts
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons vegetable shortening or coconut oil
  • 80 candy Eyeballs
  • 10 Starburst candy squares in pink
  • 1 tube black icing

Instructions

  • Prepare a baking sheet with waxed paper.
  • Place the cookies into a food processor and pulse until the cookies become fine crumbs.
  • Cut the cream cheese into chunks and add the cream cheese to the food processor. Pulse until the mixture is well blended and forms a large ball.
  • Using a small cookie scoop, portion the cookie dough into 1-inch balls and roll into a smooth ball.
  • Optional: For best results, freeze the oreo balls prior to decorating.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, place the candy melts and shortening. Microwave for 1 minutes and stir vigorously. Continue heating in 30 second increments, stirring vigorously between each heating, until the candy has melted and is smooth.
  • Dip each ball into the melted candy and tap to remove the excess candy. Place the cookie ball on the prepared cookie sheet.
  • Place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator for about 1 hour or until firm.

To Make The Frogs

  • Pinch small amounts of the Starburst candies and roll into tiny balls to be the cheeks. Set aside.
  • Using the remaining melted candy and a toothpick, place a small amount of chocolate on each of the decorations, including the eyes, and press into place on the oreo ball. If the oreo balls are cold, the candy will set faster.
  • Using a toothpick and black icing, draw a mouth on each oreo ball.
  • Allow the candy to set completely prior to serving.

Notes

  • Use store-brand chocolate sandwich cookies, and store-brand cream cheese if you want to save money while making these oreo balls.
  • You can also use almond bark that you dye green with food coloring gel if you cannot find the green candy melts in a store near you.
  • When dipping the balls, if you find that they are falling apart, place them in the freezer for about 20 minutes to harden them back up before dipping again.
  • Do not forget to tap the excess candy off of each ball or else it will pool at the bottom and make a mess.
  • If you want to get really creative, you can pipe on little spots with black icing to make them look like real frogs.
Store the Oreo balls in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Don't let them sit at room temperature for more than two hours.
