Hint: You only need to bake these until they are warm and the cheese is melted so don’t allow them to overcook and the bottoms to become hard.

Variations

Let me share a handful of ways you can change up this chicken recipe for a whole new level of flavor. These different options are optional. So feel free to pick and choose what you want to make these a custom version.

  • Cheese – You can use any type of melty cheddar cheese, Colby jack, pepper jack cheese, sharp cheddar cheese, or more types of cheese. Pick and cheese what cheese you would like or mix and match different types of cheese.
  • Rolls – Now you can use Hawaiian sweet rolls, brioche rolls, butter rolls, or another other type of roll. You will put the butter mixture on the top buns which is needed to keep the rolls moist. But the spices on the buttery rolls add flavor too. Just reach for a bread that you like the flavor of.
  • Deluxe – So if you want a deluxe version, you can add some BBQ sauce, dijon mustard, green onions, a tangy ranch dressing, Sriracha, and more. Feel free to add extra flavors to the recipe.

Equipment

For making this chicken bacon ranch sliders recipe, you will find that using a 9×13 baking casserole dish is a great way to hold the sliders in as you bake them. That way if any of the slices of cheese melt and drip off you will have a pan that catches the melted cheese.

You will also find that using a pastry brush for dipping the melted butter mixture over the top of the slider buns will help keep them moist as they bake but also add another layer of flavor to these slider sandwiches.

Storage

โ€‹If you do not eat all the sliders feel free to place them in a sealed airtight container and place them in the fridge for 2-4 days. You will find that the leftover chicken mixture can soften the bottom of the rolls a bit as they are in the fridge.

Then when you want you can eat the leftovers cold or warm up the sliders in the oven or the microwave. Heat until the chicken filling is nice and warm. Now you can freeze the leftover sliders, but just know that the buns will alter in texture once it thaw from being frozen. Then reheat as you would like. You can freeze for 2-3 months.

Wendy’s Test Kitchen Tips

  •  Whether you use chicken thighs, boneless chicken breast, or pre-cooked chicken, all you need to do is shred the chicken meat for the sliders. You can use two forks to pull the chicken apart, or a serrated knife and finely chop the chicken into bite-size pieces.
  • Ensure you fully cook the bacon until crispy. Drain off grease and then chop or use crumbled bacon to top the chicken.
  • If you find the top of rolls are getting a little too brown, place aluminum foil lightly over the tops of the rolls in the oven to help melt the cheese and let the melted garlic butter mixture soak into the rolls. Once the mixture is well melted then remove the foil and serve.
  • Use a sharp knife to slice the rolls apart from one another and serve the sliders warm and fresh from the oven.
