What You’ll Need
Donut Holes – Any brand, but glazed works best. I used Krispy Kreme.
Candy Melts – Light brown colored candy melts. Or melted chocolate.
Pretzels – Thin Pretzel Sticks.
Toppings – Sprinkles and Chopped Nuts.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1. Place the candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat the candy on the defrost setting of the microwave for 1 minute at a time, stopping to stir after each round of cooking. Continue to cook in the microwave until the candy is completely melted and smooth.
Step 2. Shape each donut hole into a rough acorn shape. You can do this by squeezing the sides in slightly, and flattening the top a bit.
Step 3. Holding the pointed end of each donut hole, dip the top of it into the melted candy to create the cap of the acorn.
Step 4. Add some fall-colored sprinkles or chopped nuts to the melted candy on each dipped donut hole, and place them onto a parchment-lined baking sheet to dry.
Step 5. Insert Thin Pretzel Stick broken into halves into the top to make the stem
Step 6. Place the dipped donut hole into the fridge for a minimum of 30 minutes to set, and then serve.
Step 7. Shape each donut into a rough acorn shape. You can do this by squeezing the sides in slightly, and flattening the top a bit. Learn from my advice and don’t attempt to roll the donut hole into shape in your hands like a snake! It doesn’t work! But, hey it made for a great excuse to eat one!
