hotdogs, candy eyeballs, and cresecent rolls on a wooden cutting board
  • hotdogs – Any kind that your family prefers. My family likes beef.
  • crescent rolls or crescent sheets – I used rolls because I couldn’t find the dough sheets
  • small candy eyeballs
  • Your favorite dipping sauce

See the recipe card below for quantities.

๐Ÿ”ช Instructions

  1. Remove hotdogs from packing and set them aside, you want the hotdogs dry.

2. Remove rolls from the can and flatten each group of rolls by unrolling but not separating the group of rolls. Pinch close the perforations. Place between two sheets of parchment and roll flat to 1/8โ€ thick.

3. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut dough into strips. Make strips un-uniform between 1/8โ€ to 1/4โ€ wide.

4. Wrap each hotdog in using the strips of dough to mimic a loose mummy wrap. The dough will expand slightly so beware of too much bunching or overlapping. The hotdog should be visible throughout.

5. Open a spot for the eyes somewhere.

6. Place the wrapped hotdogs in the air fryer basket. I like to add parchment to the basket for nonsticking.

7. Cook at 350 for 12-15 minutes until the dough is cooked and slightly golden.

8. Remove and place the eyes on the mummies. You can use ketchup or mustard as glue for the eyes. Let the eyes dry before platting.

Hint: I line the basket of my air fryer with parchment paper for easy clean up. But, you can skip this step if you prefer.

๐Ÿ“Variations

Do you want to change up this recipe and make it your own? Here are some ways that you can do that!

  • Pre-Cooked Brats – You can use pre-cooked brats or smoked sausages in replace of hot dogs.
  • Cheese – Place 1/2 slice of cheese on top of hot dog before you wrap in the crescent roll. It will give these dogs a nice cheesy component.
  • Dipping Sauce – Pair with a mix of dipping sauces of choice. This is a fun way to change up the flavor.
  • Little Smokies – You can make these in a mini mummy dog version for a bite-size appetizer. Just wrap each smokie with some of the crescent rolls and then bake until the crescent rolls are cooked through.

๐Ÿฅ„ Equipment

  • air fryer
  • pizza cutter or sharp knife
  • parchment paper

๐Ÿฅซ Storage

Store your air fryer Halloween mummy dogs in an airtight container in the fridge. They will store for 2-4 days. You will find the crescent rolls soften a bit but still tastes good.

You can reheat it in the air fryer for a few minutes to warm it up. Or you can warm it up in the microwave for a quick reheat.

๐Ÿ’ญ Tips

  • You will want the crescent rolls to turn golden brown on the outside. Then once browned a bit remove and let cool just a minute or two before serving.
  • Also, make sure that your hot dogs don’t touch each other, or it will cause spots in the crescent roll to not cook fully.
  • If you are using crescent rolls instead of sheets, pinch the crescent triangles together to make a rectangle before you cut it into thin strips.
  • We like to dip it in ketchup, yellow mustard, or even cheese sauce.
  • Make your mummy wrap extra crispy by brushing some melted butter or olive oil onto the top of each hot dog once you have wrapped it. Do this before you air fry it.
  • If you don’t have crescent dough on hand you can also use biscuit dough or pizza dough for these cute little guys.

โ‰๏ธ FAQ

Do you have questions about this recipe? Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions for this hot dog mummies recipe.

Will hot dogs explode in air fryer?

I recommend taking a fork and poking into the hot dog, this will help prevent the hot dogs from exploding as they cook. Since you have the crescent roll around the outside that helps as well.

How long do you cook hot dogs in the air fryer?

I cooked these hot dogs at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. You want to make sure the crescent roll fully cooks.

What do I use to stick on the googly eyes?

I used ketchup to stick on candy eyes for this recipe. But, you can also use mustard or your favorite dipping sauce.

Can I make these mummy hot dogs in the oven instead?

Yes, assemble the mummy dogs per the directions listed above and then bake at 350 degrees on a greased baking sheet for 12 to 15 minutes or until they are golden brown
